CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE, CHANDIGARH

There are 10 Centres of Excellence in HIV care in the country out of which one is
situated in PGIMER, U.T., Chandigarh. This Centre care was established in PGIMER,
Chandigarh in Sep. 2008 with a view to provide tertiary care and treatment to PLHIVs,
capacity building and training of personnel and to undertake operational research
and publication in the field of HIV/AIDS. The Centre is located in :

The Centre Of Excellence in HIV Care carries out the following functions:
|
- Comprehensive HIV Care services- which includes ICTC services, PPTCT services, ART
services, Paediatric HIV services, lab. services and referrals and linkages.
- Training and Mentoring-including NACO training and programmatic and clinical mentoring.
- Research ? Activities related to HIV i.e. Operational Research for the National
Programme.
- Clinical Expert Panel: The State AIDS Clinical Expert Panel (SACEP) reviews and
decides on all cases referred by ART Centre for 2nd line ART provision. Viral load
testing is carried out free of cost and if patient is found eligible, he is initiated
on 2nd line ART which is also provided free of cost. High quality case management
of PLHIVs on 2nd line ART by the referring ART Centre is ensured by the COE.
In the Centre of Excellence at PGIMER, there are currently 160 patients Alive and
on second line ART and 58 patients Alive and on Alternate first line ART. Some of
these patients have been referred to the Centre from various ART Centres of the
Northern region.
